What Really Surprises Me Is............

i mean, it would certainly settle the issue of who's in and who's out, because whoever wasn't attending meetings couldn't pick up their next clean uniform.

God did give laws but they have been miscarried out which is what Christ pointed out. Christ also pointed out that showing love for God by being neighborly to others is a principle greater than all the laws God gave gave Moses.

They do not have to "officially" shun/disfellowship to in fact do so. That's what's happening. This way they dodge some of the bad press this stuff by them causes -- or so they have hoped. The process is not called "disfellowshipping" you but "expelling" you.
If you read non-Watchtower literature against them, have oral sex with your spouse, etc, you are subject to being expelled from "Jehovah's Kingdom" as they deem themselves, or what we all now know is really the "pedophile's paradise."
The old boys are doing their best to cause themselves the most trouble. What knuckleheads! What boneheads! Jarasc, you are the jerkiest.

God opposes forced sameness. For example in nature He did not make all flowers the same color or fragrance. Variety is good, godly.
Romans 14:6 says Christians have freedom to hold differing views.
Unity is not the same as uniformity which is what your group is after as well as what the Watchtower Society promotes. True Love require freedom to differ or vary even while unity is kept by the strongest of all bonds that Colossians 3:14 says is "love."

They went from one house to another at a distance but not canvassing every single house/door in a roll. In fact Luke 10:7 says "do not be transferring from house to house." Instead what they did was this.
They asked while visiting at a home where they might go to next to visit at another town. ; Thus they might start out around Nazareth then go up north to Capernaum visiting relatives and speaking with anyone who'd gather around.
The Bible does not give fast and hard rules about where and how to witness. ; We are in fact free to witness any place and time that will bring glory to our heavenly Father's name (personage not a particular pronunciation).
There was teaching or witnessing in places such as in a boat, by a river, in a house (many in fact), in public synagogues (equivalent today to other church buildings), while in a moving vehicle (Phillip with the eunuch/court official in the chariot) etc.
The Watchtower Society's requiring door-to-door witnessing stifles Jehovah's Holy Spirit. ; It may take I think I once read 15,000 hours of door-to-door work before someone is baptized. ; Informal witnessing is more effective and the best method is actually not with our mouths but by showing acts of kindess.Did Jehovah's Christ only talk to people? No, he talked but he also healed the sick and fed the hungry. The apostles did such thing too, took clothing to those in need and the like.
I am part of a fellowship of former JWs and other friends. ; We just call ourselves Christians, though descriptively some use Free Christians, Jah Christians etc. We witness by showing love, not just talking, for it is the Bible way of Godly devotion.
There certainly is no law either against doing a lot of talking to God's glory or even against literally canvassing doors in rolls at times, if you truly feel so moved, but it should be from the heart if so, without pressure.
